Check it out, learn how to make your very own Halloween Lantern at home or at school!
This craft activity is super easy, only takes a few resources and really gives you a chance to get creative! Although we're giving it a Halloween spin in this blog post, you can make the lanterns into any theme. Maybe to celebrate Chinese New Year, to decorate for a Birthday Party, as a New Years Eve craft or even make your own lantern from Disney's Tangled - the possibilities are endless.
So to start with, here is what you will need:
- A4 Paper (White or coloured - you can choose different sizes but we find A4)
- Glue (glue sticks are perfect for this activity)
- Tools to decorate with (pencils, paint, felt tips, crayons, chalk etc)
Once you've got all of your resources together we can jump in and get started!
How to make your Halloween Lantern:
Take a piece of A4 paper and decorate/draw on your design.
You can use whichever materials you see fit, really get creative here!
Fold your paper in half (with the design facing up) and cut strips up from the fold. Be sure to leave a gap at the top so it all stays connected!
Unfold the lantern with the new cut lines. On the far side of the paper put glue down one of the strips then curve it around to make your lantern shape.
Now you can add the final decorations to your lantern! Add a strip of paper for a handle at the top and any other additional features. You could add bat wings for a vampire bat, bolts for Frankenstein or curly paper for the stalk of a pumpkin.
So that's how we created our Halloween Lanterns, how are you going to make yours?! Be sure to tag us in any pictures of your creations so we can see how fantastic they are!
