Rainbow Rooms Kids CIC

Why we set up the
Community Interest Company

The current activities available to children in the local areas do not provide a focus on encouraging a higher level of literacy in the way ours will do, which is particularly relevant in an area (Leeds) where approximately 1/6th of children fall below the government expected development goals for reading by the time they reach secondary school.

The Rainbow Rooms CIC not only provides a number of part-time and flexible jobs, employing people from within the local community, it also offers a platform of opportunity and inspiration for children up to the ages of 10.

In a world where everywhere you turn there is a drive to increase the amount of technology we are exposed to, there is a notable effect on the cognitive development and stress levels of children. The activities provided by the Rainbow Rooms seek to reduce these negative impacts and focus on building social skills, which in turn boosts confidence, in young children.

The setup of the Rainbow Rooms CIC enables activities to be inclusive of different family needs. Although there is a focus on the children, it is with the whole family in mind therefore there are many ways in which parents and grandparents, carers and others may use the activities to provide a bonding experience that is not applicable in e.g. soft play areas where grown-ups and children are separated.

Our CIC is based on creating a business that is sustainable through repeat custom through delivering affordable educationally-led entertainment for the community to enjoy – ensuring it is accessible by all.

Since launching all our varying affordable activities listed below, we have reached hundreds of families every week, continuing with our social aim of helping to ignite imagination, bring a sense of wealth to storytelling, help build confidence and mental wellbeing in children.

Unique Events

  • We have continued with our toddler and pre-schooler events with an aim to educate, engage and entertain young children in a way that enables them to reach limits that they wouldn't have known they could.

  • We have continued to create a number of events that have inspired young minds and supported children in growing their confidence in the magic of engaging storytelling.

  • We worked with parents, nurseries and preschools in the local area to devise the events that had a social aim to offer affordable and engaging delivery of creative content.

  • Our events were designed to excite and inspire children aged 0-4 using drama, music, puppetry, craft, sensory and lots of imaginative play, and were solely based on children’s stories, both well-known and unknown titles.

  • The events are affordable/priced competitively with siblings free of charge – we manage to reach around 60 families each time we host an event.

Holiday Club

After reaching out and listening to the local community, it was found there was a ‘gap’ in the market for a literacy-led holiday club.

The club aims to provide the local community with a secure, affordable, dynamic and fun club in which children who don’t want to participate in sport-led or school-based clubs an opportunity to attend.

With it being cheaper than most holiday clubs in the local and surrounding areas, it also provides access to children with limited literacy resources at home, an opportunity to use their imagination through theatre, craft, science and play.

The club is marketed with an aim to build children’s’ confidence and stretch their imagination, all whilst giving them the chance to make new friends and have lots of fun, through;

  • Fun Drama Workshops

  • Games & Competitions

  • Arts & Crafts

  • Baking

  • Model Making

  • Science & Experiments

  • Team Building Projects

  • Access to our Roof Top Garden Play Area*

  • PLUS, stage a play in a day at the end of the week!

Children can attend for any number of individual days. But if they attend on a Friday they can also take part in a mini end-of-week production.

Birthday Parties

Again, listening to what our community/audience wanted we created affordable theatrical (and completely original!) character-led parties that are based around storytelling adventures. Only £99, parties includes;

  • A theatrical experience for 10 children

  • Party host & dedicated entertainer

  • A choice from our nine incredible & original themes

  • A unique (and completely original!) theatrical experience including; a magical adventure, interactive storytelling, themed games and activities, crafts and lots of fun!

We have yet again been nominated at the Child Friendly Leeds awards for our work with young people, and have been nominated in the top 5 for being the best venue for children under 5years in Yorkshire by ‘Kids Days Out’. We also won a number of Hoop awards for our work with children – all of these awards are driven by our customers that attend.
