The free to attend event, Talking Together through Tales, Toys & Tunes, will showcase the importance of caregivers and children talking together by co-creating an interactive communication-based experience.
Talking together facilitates joint attention between caregivers and children, which has been shown to have a significant positive impact on children’s language development.
The event has been co-created between Leeds University’s Child Development Unit and the Rainbow Factory, whose aims are to support caregivers in improving their language interactions with children.
The Rainbow Factory will give an interactive storytelling performance focusing on language and communication. Stories by Julia Donaldson will be brought to life by performers who will act out the story, and encourage children to actively participate.
Leeds University team will also be on hand to explain how caregivers and children can talk together through different activities. This will be audience-led and highly interactive and families will then have an opportunity to engage in workshops together on interactive sensory story and movement, free play, and a sensory treasure hunt. The workshops will be themed around Julia Donaldson’s popular titles.
After the event there will be a free ‘toolkit’ for children to take away with them, including a free book thanks to the BookTrust.
